Thought for the week and the holidays

“All things work together for good to them that love God”

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
Albert Einstein

“When one door closes another opens. But often we look so long so regretfully upon the closed door that we fail to see the one that has opened for us.”
Helen Keller

As we come to the end of another wonderfully successful year, my first wish is for you all to have a blessed holiday season. What is the origin of “holiday”? Of course it comes from a “holy” day or opportunity to focus on spiritual matters rather than on work for a while. What does the term “holy” actually mean? I am sure that many of you will have your own interpretation but I like to think of it as a reminder that we are “whole” or “one” and that we are not separate from God, not separate from one another; indeed how could we be if “In God we live and move and have our being”. So perhaps during the holiday period we might just reflect for a few minutes on our one-ness, our “wholeness” on our “holyday”. As we realise that there is one God, one Mind it becomes impossible to have wars or separation, because we realise that we cannot be separate and that we are only fighting ourselves if we choose to go to war. So lets love God, and work together for good.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Junior School Speech Night and Prizegiving. You were all wonderful and so well behaved. Special thanks to Mrs Cruttenden and the Junior School staff for their coordination of this event. It was a fitting conclusion to an excellent year.

The important event coming up this week is of course the Senior School Speech Night at Robert Blackwood Hall on Friday Night. Please note that this event starts at 7.30pm and NOT 8.00pm as indicated on the tickets. This is a miss-print. Everyone must be seated before 7.30pm please. It is also compulsory for all Senior School students to attend Speech Night and we certainly expect that all parents will also attend. There is plenty of space so feel free to bring grandparents and cousins if you would like to do so. Tickets can be collected from the office. I look forward to seeing you there.

The VCE examination results will be released on Monday 15 December and we wish all these students and their parents everything of the best, knowing that they will all get just what they need to enable them to be in their right place next year.

I look forward to seeing you all back relaxed and refreshed on Tuesday 3 February for the Commencement assembly at 9.00am.

Sholto Bowen

Senior Speech Night Rehearsals
All members of Senior Orchestra, Concert Band and Senior Choir should have received a rehearsal schedule during the exam period.

If you have not received a schedule please contact me (Lynley Bramble BH 9807 8888/AH 9803 7701 or email lbramble@huntingtower.vic.edu.au) as it is essential that every player attends every rehearsal please.

There will be a special Orchestra Break-up Tea and Rehearsal on Sunday 30 November.
5.00pm – 8.00pm (Senior Orchestra)
8.00pm – 9.00pm (String Orchestra)

This is compulsory for all players please.  So please let me know immediately if there is a problem.  Many thanks to all players for your fantastic work.

Hearty Congratulations and sincere thanks to:
1.  The Little Choir and the Little Symphony for the magnificent concert last week.  Every item was sheer delight and highly entertaining!  Special thanks to every student from Years Prep, 1 and 2 to Mrs Anne Wilson who prepared the Little Choir so beautifully and to Mrs Cruttenden, Mrs Rudd, Mrs Cole, Mrs Rickard and Mrs Maguire who gave us all such wonderful help and support.

2.  Every Junior School student and member of staff for the magnificent work in the preparation for Junior Speech Night.  As this Bulletin is released we will be putting on the final touches to each performance but it is sure to be a wonderful occasion.

3.  The Junior players and singers who performed at another Citizenship Ceremony this week.  Once again the behaviour was impeccable and the performances were thoroughly enjoyed by our new Australian citizens.  Our students loved the delicious refreshments provided!

Instrument Tuition
Many of our students have been enjoying the great excitement of playing together in the various orchestras and Concert Band especially in the preparation for the Camerata concert and for our two Speech Nights.  It is a very rewarding, enjoyable experience and it also develops high levels of reading, listening, concentration and alterness which can be channelled into academic performance.
If you do not play an instrument now is an ideal time to start!  Instruments are available to suit the needs of students throughout the school so please don’t hesitate to speak to me (Lynley Bramble BH 9807 8888 / AH 9803 7701 or email lbramble@huntingtower.vic.edu.au) if you would like to discuss the availabilty or suitability of various instruments.  Instrumental tuition forms are available from me or from the School Office.  Perhaps you may like to try out some instruments during the holidays so you can start in 2009 – there are many possibilities so do come along and have a go!
