Posted August 29 2008“A loving heart is the truest wisdom.”
Charles Dickens
“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”
Thomas Jefferson
When we talk to others, with others and about others we are encouraged to always be kind, thoughtful and positive. We always build people up; we help them feel good about themselves. Most of us are very quick to encourage others to see the good in themselves, to dream big, to know that they can achieve their goals and dreams because they express the unlimited intelligence of divine Mind. They are the expression of divine Love.
What happens to us when we start thinking about ourselves, however? We are so quick to accept negative suggestions that we make to ourselves about ourselves. “I am really not good enough to do that; I never was able to run fast; I don’t have a great memory; I could never do algebra; I don’t have the ability to make money; I can’t paint; etc, etc”.
We talk to ourselves 80% to 90% of the time and it is essential that we monitor the kind of language we use when we talk to ourselves. We must learn to catch ourselves making these negative statements about ourselves – we are just perpetuating the lies. We are infinitely capable, if we will just allow ourselves to be. St Paul in his letter to the Philippians said “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”. Well Christ Jesus was not going around telling himself what he could not do and what he was bad at and thinking about how limited he was. He was constantly knowing his oneness with God – infinite Mind – and this is therefore what he expressed. The more we can ensure that our thoughts reflect our true positive, unlimited nature, the more we will experience this in our lives. Let’s start being as kind to ourselves as we are to others.
Parents will be aware of the new, much publicised, teachers’ salaries. We are very pleased that the importance of teachers in our society is being recognised. A teacher has the ability to change or mould a young person’s life by the ideas, attitudes and values that they share. These salary increases will by necessity flow on to school fees and while we will always try and minimise fee increases, this may be a year when a considerable increase will be apparent. We hope that this does not impact too severely on household budgets in 2009. We hope to release the new fees for 2009 in November this year.
This year’s Camerata Concert on Sunday 12 October will be dedicated to Mr John Bruce. John has been associated with Huntingtower for much of his life with all his children and many of his grandchildren attending. He has served for over 30 years on the Huntingtower School Association and has designed and project managed most of the school buildings. His contribution has been immeasurable and I encourage everyone to join us at this Gala Concert to thank him for his commitment.
Congratulations to all our choirs and orchestral groups who took part in the recent Waverley Eisteddfod. The standard of their performance was exceptional and once again they achieved amazing results. Grateful thanks to Mrs Bramble and Mrs Sutton for all their work in preparing the students for this and all the other competitions and activities they are involved in.
We had a wonderful celebration of Book Week throughout the school and I must thank Mrs Hamzi and Mrs Kuhne for all their work in organising many activities to encourage reading. The Junior School “Stories Before Bedtime” is always a great hit and it is fun to see all the teachers and children in their PJ’s.

The big shed (just up from the boarding house, opposite the astro turf; look for the sign tat says ‘fete’ on the door) is the best place to leave goods. Each year level will run a stall:

Call your fete rep now and offer to help!
CD’s, DVD’s VCR tapes and records (year 9): Its time to sort through your collection – this is the perfect opportunity to get rid of those you don’t want! Year 9 is collecting for the second hand stall at the fete. Leave in the box at the office.
Plant Stall (4yo kinder): What about a project for mid term break? Grab some seeds or seedlings, stick them in some small pots and have the pleasure of watching them grow – then the double pleasure of donating them to the school fete.
If you have ANY plastic pots – black, green, brick brown – please leave them in the shed, past the boarding house, opposite the astro turf.
Food handlers certificate? We need someone who has a food handling certificate to help on the day of the fete. Our food stalls depend on us finding someone with the right qualifications. If you can help, please call Sheree Amprimo on 9800 4430
Baskets for Silent Auction (year 7): Your old, not too well worn cane baskets can be recycled, filled with goodies for the Silent Auction. If you have any, or can collect some, please put them aside. If you own / work in a business that might be able to donate something to the silent auction, please call Carol Jones on 9887 7252 or Sharee Charrett on 9886 8704. We need gift vouchers, goods and / or dollars. All offers welcome!
Second hand designer hand bags and clothes (year 4): Is it nearly time you cleaned out your wardrobe to make way for spring…or your children’s wardrobes? Put aside clean, good quality clothes for our second hand clothes stall. Deliver to the shed…but please, no rips, tears, stains or patches.
PTA notice board: Check out the new PTA notice board for news of what is happening. Head towards the school office but turn right – and enjoy the magnificent woodwork display on the way!
Did you know Airstream Café donate a portion of your bill to the school – if they know where you are from? When paying, simply ASK how your bill can be recorded to benefit Huntingtower.
Farm Pride Eggs: Our school has registered to participate in the Farm Pride and Golden Egg Farm collect-a-thon. Every token collected from Farm Pride and Golden Farm Eggs packs will earn 50c for the PTA. There is a tin in the foyer of the office, just waiting for your tokens. Please cut out the 50c tokens from your egg cartons. Proceeds will help our PTA coffers! Funds raised will go to help buy some much needed items for the ELC area. Watch out for the posters in classrooms and around the school.
Your Parent Teacher Association: Don’t be shy. As part of the school community, you are invited, encouraged and very welcome to attend all PTA meetings. Hearty congratulations and sincere thanks must be given to the 250 students who participaed in the Waverley Eisteddfod. The high quality of music making and the exceptional standard achieved by every student is amazing. Hours of hard work and commitment have been given by all students and their individual and combined dedication is thoroughly appreciated.
On Saturday 16 August 200 Huntingtower orchestral musicians from Years 3 to 12 performed magnificently in the Ensemble sections of the Waverley Eisteddfod. There were 60 more students who were prepared and keen to perform but there were harsh number restrictions so their turn will come next year!
All our orchestras and ensembles received excellent reports and were all awarded over 90 points – a wonderful achievement!
Enormous appreciation is extended to our dedicated hard working staff, Mrs Cruttenden and her Junior School team, Mr Bowen, Mrs Sutton and Mrs Barker who came on a long weekend to support and supervise the students. Thank you all vey much indeed.
On Friday 22 August the Huntingtower Senior Chamber Choir performed magnificently and received wonderful reports from the adjudicator and the audience. Posted August 14 2008Thought for the week
“What nobler employment, or more valuable to the state,
than that of the man who instructs the rising generation.”
Cicero
“We cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening our own.”
Ben Sweetland
Grace, the expression of Soul, is always with us. It flows like a river through our lives, gently reminding us that there is beauty and power beyond what our eyes can see. In the words of the poet “don’t close your mind, just close your eyes and then you’ll really see what life is like…”
Grace exists in all situations, in every moment, yet all too often we may overlook its presence. Imagine how it would feel to live an entire day in grace, to fully appreciate that your day is unfolding in absolute perfection. Just look for and at the good in everyone and every situation and know that God is at work and his plan is perfect.
Over twelve hundred people attended our recent production of “Anything Goes” and were spellbound by the dazzling performances of every participant. The singing, dancing, acting, costuming, sound and lighting were of the highest quality and the overall impression was spectacular. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew for this wonderful show. Thanks to Mr Borbely, Mrs Dry, Mrs Bramble, Mrs Barker, Mr Fletcher, Mr Hill, Mrs Tiepermann, Ms Tenne, Miss Greiveson, Miss Fletcher-McGookin, Mrs Houghton-Smith and everyone involved for all their hard work and dedication in bringing this show to life. We are also grateful to our student choreographers Emily Laughlin, Georgie Rawlins and Hayley Emmerson who helped so much with all the dances. It is activities like this that offer such wonderful opportunities to a diverse range of students, enabling each one to find a place to shine. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success.
The PTA committee, Class Representatives and Fete Representatives are hard at work preparing for the 2008 Fete. If anyone can assist in any way, we would be most grateful. We need items for the silent auction. These can include weekend holidays at a beach house, overseas trips to Fiji, holidays in the South of France or a dog wash voucher. We will be grateful for anything that you can assist with. If you would like to donate a spare car to be auctioned or one of your rental properties, we would also be very happy to add them to our list. If you would like to contribute a box of chocolates or 3 extra Maths classes, I am sure you will have many people bidding for them. If you are able to assist in the planning, execution or clean-up of the Fete, please let me know or contact the Fete committee.
I hope that you can join us on Sunday afternoon at 3pm for the farewell concert for Markiyan Melnychenko. This will be a wonderful afternoon of music.
The Waverley Eisteddfod begins this weekend and we wish all our musical groups everything of the best for this important event.

Please come along and enjoy a whole day (or part thereof!) of magnificent music making from many different orchestras and ensembles participating in the Eisteddfod. Your wonderful support is greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to all the following for the wonderful recent events
1. To the players in Junior Orchestra who all played superbly at the JSHAA 17th Biennial Combined Music Festival on Tuesday evening at the Dallas Brookes Hall. It was a wonderful experience for our young students to perform in such a large venue with a capacity audience and it was an exciting spectacle when all nine participating schools combined on the stage for a massed singing item at the conclusion of the concert. Noah Deubel reprensented Huntingtower magnificently as our compere and we were so proud of every one of our Huntingtower students. Sincere gratitude is extended to Mrs Cruttenden for her wonderful work on the JSHAA committee and for her efficient organisation of the event and many thanks also to Mrs Wilson, Mrs Jones and Mrs Deubel for all their preparation, help and support.
2. To the eighty talented students starring in our Senior musical production “Anything Goes” brilliantly directed by Mr Daniel Borbely and his enthusiastic production team. Hearty congratulations (from a musical point of view!!) to all the Principals and chorus members for their magnificent singing and dancing and to the orchestra for their magnificent playing. Everyone looked and sounded superb!
3. To Christian Smith who has had some wonderful results from the South Street Eisteddfod – a first prize, a second prize and an Honourable Mention all received during the week of the musical! Christian has also been chosen as one of the 20 VCE Solo music performers to record for 3MBS FM – his performance will be broadcast on a date to be announced.
Coming Events
1. Ex-student Markiyan Melnychenko will perform both as a violinist and as a Ukrainian dancer in a special concert to be given before he leaves to study at the Eastman School of Music in the USA.
It will be a fascinating “variety” concert so please come and enjoy it on Sunday 17 August in the Huntingtower Performing Arts Centre.
2. Our Huntingtower parent Julie Houghton (presenter at 3MBS FM) has arranged a wonderful opportunity for some of our VCE musicians to perform at a special performance “An Afternoon with Chapel off Chapel”. Thanks so much Julie for creating this marvellous opportunity and Julie sends the following message. “Anyone in the wider Huntingtower community might like to come and support some of our VCE musicians at a special concert performance at the Chapel off Chapel arts complex on Tuesday 26 August at 2.00pm. They will be performing as part of the regular Chapel off Chapel ‘an Afternoon With ……’ series, which showcases people and performers in the arts world. Cost is only $5.00 and includes afternoon tea, and you can just turn up on the day! It would be wonderful for our students to have some support from the ‘home team’, so please put it in your diary. Chapel off Chapel is at 12 Little Chapel Street, Prahran, and the best parking is in Essex Street. Enquiries: Chapel off Chapel on 8290 7000 or Julie Houghton on 0418 102 356.”
3. Year 8 Solo Concert on Thursday 28 August at 7.00pm in the Orchestral Room. Please come and enjoy a wonderful evening!
4. Year 9 Solo Concert on Thursday 11 September at 7.00pm in the Orchestral Room. Please come and enjoy another wonderful evening!
Chamber Choirs and Small Ensembles Showcase Concert

This will be a chance for our wonderful Chamber Choirs and smaller instrumental Ensembles (such as String Orchestras, Brass Ensembles and Chamber Ensembles) to perform. These groups often perform at Eisteddfods and at other outside engagements but we rarely hear them at Huntingtower. So please come along for a magnificent evening’s entertainment.

A special thank you to John Bruce to celebrate his amazing contribution to the Huntingtower Association.

We are thrilled that Professor John Hopkins OBE is coming as our Guest Conductor – what an exciting experience for our students to play under such an illustrious, famous conductor!
Our soloists will be Julie Haskell who will perform the 1st movement of Beethoven’s wonderful Piano Concerto No 1 and Geoffrey Payne wo will perform dazzling trumpet solos which he has recorded on commercial CD and has performed to thousands of people at the Sidney Myer music Bowl receiving a standing ovation from the entire audience. Julie and Geoff are both Huntingtower parents and we are so grateful to them both for their willing participation.
Other renowned musicians and Huntingtower parents will perform in the huge Camerata Symphony Orchestra.
