Principal’s Message

Thought for the week

“Imagination is more important than knowledge …”

Albert Einstein

Huntingtower is hosting the International Christian Science Educators Conference this weekend and we will be seeing people from almost every continent. The benefits to our school community will be immense and I appreciate the support of many parents, staff members and students in making it the success that it will be.

The Senior School musical “Anything Goes” is going to be a real hit and I look forward to seeing many of you at the performances. Please book early so as not to be disappointed.

Principal

Music Notes

Posted July 18 2008

There have been a significant number of very importnat events and performances for our musicians since the last Bulletin and we have an excitying term to look forward to,

CONGRATULATIONS to all the following for the wonderful recent events

1.  To the Senior and Middle School Chamber Choirs and to Mrs Sutton for their superb performances at the Mordialloc Eisteddfod at the end of last term.  The adjudicator was extremely impressed with the quality of sound and the attention to detail of both choirs and the following wonderful results were achieved:
1st prize – Huntingtower Senior Chamber Choir
2nd prize – Huntingtower Middle School Chamber Choir
Hearty congratulations to Mrs Sutton and both choirs.

2.  To the players in the Huntingtower Ensemble who were chosen to perform at the Boroondara Eisteddfod Showcase Concert after winning the prestigious Murray Sharp Memorial Open Chamber Music Award.

3.  To Jason Huang, Tom Lo and Sam Hodson who were chosen to perform at the 3 MBS "Chamber Music Feast" in a master class given by Marco van Pagee, Director of the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition.  Mr van Pagee and the audience were very impressed not only by their performance but also by the unassuming, enthusiastic and well-informed responses which they all gave to the excellent suggestions made by Mr van Pagee.

4.  To Mia Berlin, Philip Tan and Sarah Robinson who all received High Distinctions at the recent AMEB exams and to all our Huntingtower students who all received outstanding results.

5.  To the 25 Huntingtower students who were chosen to attend the State Music Camp which was held at huntingtowerr during the first week of the school holidays.  Two hundred students attended from all over Melbourne and Victoria and they were all delighted by the spacious grounds and excellent facilities.  The President of the State Music Camp Committee publicly expressed his gratitude to Mr Bowen and all the staff at Huntingtower (administrative, academic and maintenance) for giving the camp the opportunity to use the wonderful facilities – he called huntingtower the "Shangri-La of the Suburbs"!
Special congratulations to Liam Oborne, Dean Lee and Emma Maguire who were chosen as Principal players in their various sections (Dean was concertmaster of one of the orchestras) and to Sam Le Cerf who was awarded one of the coveted "Conductor’s Awards".

6.  To Jess Foot, our wonderful oboe teacher and ex-student who won the final of the "Concerto for Woodwind, Brass or Percussion" section of the ABC Young Performer’s Award held recently in Hobart.  This is a marvellous honour and we wish Jess all the very best as she progresses to the Grand Final later in the year.
