 Thought for the week
“Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
Give everyone a smile.
Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others.”

The exam week is over and the winter holidays are approaching. It has been a long and busy term and it has flown by with amazing speed.

At a recent presentation I heard a suggestion that as the consciousness of mankind is developing we are coming closer and closer to realising our true oneness with the infinite divine Mind. Ultimately the “end of the world” the physical world that is, will come about when we realise that through an understanding of our God-given abilities and spiritual nature we are able to “co-create” our own world, our own experience and our own “future”. With this comes an eventual realisation that there is really no limitation at all – not even time. Of course the result of all this is that the world/universe becomes what we create it to be, every instant. It is in reality – spiritual not material.

I think this is a wonderful picture of the future and is far more uplifting and positive than the “doom and gloom” merchants who speak of the dismal future prospects for the world. I think our role at present is simply to lift everyone’s thinking to the highest level we can and to see the good in everyone and everything. When we see God, good in everything we start to bring all of this into our experience and it becomes the unfoldment of our consciousness.

We have a busy time ahead before the school closes for two weeks and then we have a very hectic schedule next term. Many of you will have attended the Large Group Music Concert held on Thursday night. What wonderful work our Music Department does. The Choirs, Orchestras, Concert Band and other groups are absolutely stunning. Thank you to everyone involved.

In the final week we have “Thank Goodness You’re Here” on Tuesday Night and this is a fund-raiser for the Simunye project, which is our South African outreach activity. As you probably know we have students and staff going there every second year to help support various struggling communities including orphanages, an After-School care centre and a rural school. This event will be a lot of fun so please come along and enjoy the experience. We have a number of professional comedians taking part.
Please come along and support this great community project and have a really fun-filled evening.

During the first two weeks of next term Huntingtower is hosting an International Educators’ Conference. This is a great honour for us and is a wonderful opportunity for our staff and many other teachers to hear from international experts in their field. To facilitate our own staff attending the conference we are making Monday 21 July an Optional Attendance day. This will apply to both the Senior and Junior School students. No formal teaching will take place but if you would like to send your child to school they will be looked after.

On Saturday 19 July the Conference Keynote speaker, Dr Laurance Doyle, will be speaking on the topic, Modern Physics and Metaphysics: their place in education. Laurance Doyle is a world renowned Astrophysicist and is a part of NASA’s SETI program. If any parent would like to attend from 10am to 11am on Saturday 19 July, we would love to see you.

Have a very good rest over the holidays and thank you for your continued support this term.

Student’s News

Posted June 20 2008

Over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, Brooke Logie (Year 7) and Eloise Verbeek (Year 8) along with team mates from their representative basketball team, Nunawading Spectres U14.1, competed in the National Junior Classic tournament at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. In each age group, 16 teams from around Australia are invited to attend, and Brooke and Eloise’s team was successful in winning the bronze medal, after beating their arch rivals, the Melbourne Tigers, in a closely fought final. The team will now complete the Victorian Championship season, and have qualified to play in the Australian Junior Championships in Adelaide in October.

Music Notes

Posted June 20 2008

There has been an amazing series of concerts over the past month and hearty congratulations are extended to every student (over 400 students) who performed so magnificently.  As the Bulletin gors to print we will have just experienced our magnificent Junior and Senior Orchestral and Choral Concert.  This concert involves over 300 students from Years 3 to 12 performing in all our large orchestras, choirs and Concert Band – it is always an awe-inspiring sight to see so many young people moving quickly and quietly to their positions and then producing such high quality, beautiful music.  We are ceertainly extremely proud of every musician involved.

Sincere gratitude is extended to our wonderful team – Mrs Lisa Sutton (Senior Choral), Mrs Anne Wilson (Junior choral), Mrs Julie Payne (Brass Ensemble) to our talented, dedicated parents and old student Chris Turpin, Julie Payne, Carolyn Berlin, Geoff Payne, Rob Clarke and Andrew Roe and to our very kind staff who volunteered to help organise the large number of students.

The Junior School "Musical Mosaic Concert" involving all Junior students from Years Prep to 6 and the Little Symphony and Little Choir Concert (Years Prep to 2) were both sheer delight from start to finish.  It was the very first performance for some of our students including the Preps and in both concerts there were constant special moments for the large enthusiastic audiences.

We have also enjoyed 2 wonderful Junior Piano Concerts and a Years 5 and 6 Solo Concert earlier in the term.  We are looking forward to the Years 3 and 4 Solo Concert next week (Tuesday 24 June at 6.00pm in the Orchestral Room).

Next term there will be solo performances from students in Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 and a Year 7 concert early in Term IV.

HOLIDAY SOLO CONCERT
Thursday 10 July – 7.00pm in the Orchestral Room.
This is an opportunity for students from any level to perform – it is an ideal occasion for musicians who may be preparing for AMEB or VCE exams or coming Eisteddfods to have an extra occasion to perform.  Please inform Lynley Bramble (BH 9807 8888 or AH 9803 7701) if you would like to perform.

CONGRATULATIONS to:
Christian Smith who has won a scholarship with the Choral Institute of Melbourne enabling him to go on a overseas tour with the choir to perform in a Festival in Rome and to give other performances with the choir in Milan, Venice, Pompeii and Florence.  Christian has also recently won 2nd prize in the VCE vocal section at the Ringwood Eisteddfod and has successfully auditioned for a principal role in Malcolm Williamson’s "The Happy Prince" directed by opera guru Richard Gill.  What an exciting time for Christian and we wish him all the very best.
Ethan Yuen Who was awarded 2nd prize in the 8 years and under string section and 3rd prize in the 10 years and under string section at the Ringwood Eisteddfod.

Principal’s Message

Thought for the week

“Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.”

I would like to share with you some wonderful words of wisdom that I am sure you have heard before. They have been expressed by leaders and thinkers for thousands of years.

Be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
Talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
Make all your friends feel that there is something special about them.
Look at the sunny side of everything.
Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best.
Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
Give everyone a smile.
Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others.
Be too big for worry and too noble for anger.

In July this year Huntingtower is hosting an International Educators’ Conference. This is a great opportunity and honour for us and we have educators and people interested in education based on a spiritual foundation coming from all parts of the world including Africa, Europe, , , the , and . On Saturday 19 July the conference commences with our Key Note speaker Dr Laurance Doyle. Dr Doyle is a world renowned Astrophysicist and Astronomer and has worked for many years on NASA’s SETI program (the search for extraterrestrial intelligence). You can “google” Dr Doyle and get further background on him if you like. (Be sure to spell his first name correctly in your google search) The title of Dr Doyle’s talk is “Modern Physics and Metaphysics: their place in education”. If any parent, student or friend is interested in attending this presentation you are most welcome. It will commence at 10am on Saturday 19 July in the Huntingtower Performing Arts Centre. If any of you would be interested in attending the whole Christian Science Educators’ Conference from 18 to 22 July, you are welcome to register by visiting the school website at www.huntingtower.vic.edu.au and following the links to the CS Educators’ Conference.

Congratulations to our Aerobics team which made the State finals this year. Thanks to Miss Phan who has ensured that they reached a very high standard and to Mrs Barker for her help. I was so proud of our girls when I saw them perform in the finals at the Camberwell Civic Centre. They ended up being placed 8th in the State out of 17 State finalists.

You are likely to see a number of changes occurring around the school in the next few weeks. You may be aware that three of our facilities are now hired out to outside organisations. These facilities include the Performing Arts Centre, the Gymnasium and the new Hockey Astroturf. We have also installed a new entrance protocol and drop-off zone at the Western entrance to the school which is now being extensively used by many Junior School parents. Many Senior School students also use the pedestrian entrance at this Western Entrance which is known as the Mrs V Mather entrance. In order to ensure the safety and security of all of our students, including boarders and students playing sport at the weekend or rehearsing at night, we are installing some high intensity lights which will be activated at all of the entrances to the school and also in some parts of the school which were previously quite dark at night. We will also be placing Security Video cameras at a number of positions around the school, all of which are designed to increase your child’s safety and the security of our school environment.

At the Western pedestrian entrance gate there will be an access code so that only bona fide students and parents of the school have access to our grounds. You will all be given this code once the new system has been installed and we ask that you keep it confidential to our school community. A system like this is only effective if all the people it is designed to help work towards this goal. The code will be changed every now and then and it will be important that you read the bulletin or messages that we send which reveal the new access code.

We are sure that the new system will improve our overall school security and also the security of your children. Thank you for your support with this development.
