Posted April 28 2008Thought for the week
“Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring the good and the true and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.”
Mary Baker Eddy
I was recently contemplating the acquisition of wants and after much thought have come to the conclusion that we never get what we want, and we always get what we want. We are just not clear enough as to how we should go about declaring our wants. If we think to ourselves that we “want” this or “want” that, we will get precisely that – the wanting of it. If we want peace we will always get the “wanting” of peace, and in order to continue getting the “wanting” of peace, we must continue to have war. Geoff Braden, in his book Praying Peace, says that we do not pray FOR peace, but we pray peace. Peace begins within each one of us and we need to declare our peace at all times, to everyone, in all situations. Jesus always gave thanks before each “miracle”; He understood that he was not praying for something, but acknowledging its ever-presence. Loving thoughts about ourselves and about everyone else will lift the world’s tendency to be critical of everyone else, blame everyone else and insist that our woes are the result of everyone else’s actions. Our society seems to focus on blame. We must find someone else to blame for our woes, otherwise we might have to acknowledge that we are responsible for where we find ourselves. We attract into our own lives, every experience we have. Understanding our true spiritual nature helps us to see that we are in control, not governments, banks, doctors, neighbours, colleagues or family. Decide today to live in full control and create your own world the way you would like it to be, not the way others decide to make it for you – I believe this is the path to a happy and harmonious life.
Last week I had the privilege of attending the EISM Athletics Carnival and was so proud of every one of our students. They all performed at an exceptional level and gave all they had. They are outstanding students. We came fifth out of the seven schools in the First Division, which essentially places us 5th out of the 21 schools in the EISM. We have retained our place in the First Division and I am so proud of our athletes for the way they acquitted themselves. Thanks to Mr Rees, Miss Savage and the entire Athletics training team. They all did an outstanding job.
Thank you to Mrs Bramble and Mrs Sutton for the wonderful performances of the String Orchestra and the Senior Chamber Choir at our ANZAC Service on Thursday. It was a very sensitive and thought-provoking morning and the students read beautifully. Thank you to our School leaders, Bianca Di Fede, Ben Carthew, Adam Jahnke and Kathleen Mann for their contribution and also to the Year 9 students who had prepared their own poems and readings.
We welcome Mrs Tiepermann (nee Minc) back from her honeymoon and thank Miss Bennett for the work she did in Mrs Tiepermann’s absence. We also welcome a new member of the Admin staff. Miss Tammy-Lee Little joins our staff as my new Personal Assistant and Miss Liz Davidson will now focus on the Registrar role which she has had. I am sure that you will all make Miss Little very welcome.

Are you ready to have a go?
We need class reps for Years 3, 11 & 12. Being a class rep is easy and fun – and it is a job that can be shared. Basically, you organise at least one class function, stay in touch via email with parents of your year level and help out at the odd PTA event.
Please contact a committee member if you are interested. It’s a great way to meet school parents and stay in touch with what is happening around the school
Our School Fete will be held on Saturday 8 November. As with much of the parent population, PTA committee members also work and have children who play sport, do music and are trying to juggle family, fitness, social lives and myriad other commitments. Over and above this, they volunteer to create social opportunities for parents and to raise funds to make our school a better place for all students, past, present and future. More than ever, we absolutely need the involvement of all school families in our annual fete. We are seeking the help of a few talented and dedicated individuals / small teams to take on some very important functions. These are essential, strategic and vital jobs and roles, and include promotion / advertising; signage; food handling, sponsorshp and rides. If you are interested, please call a committee member…. Today! Sheree Amprimo (9800 4430), Jean Barrand (9893 6660), Joy Di Fede (9574 9993), Judy Orford (9571 9740), Jenny Salgo (9802 5058), Sabrina Samaranayake ()
Astro Turf Opening:
the grand opening of the astro turf was held on stunningly perfect autumnal day. The versatility of the surface was enjoyed by a great turnout of people playing wide variety of sports. A very big thank you to everyone who helped with the PTA stall including the grounds staff and Rob Kitchingman for setup. A particular thank you to Brumby’s for their generous donation of bread.
Sunday Winter Market: On Sunday 27 July, The PTA will hold a winter market. We are looking for individuals/ clubs / social or sporting groups who would like to sell their wares – and welcome everything from Tupperware to jewellery, cards, enjo, craft and all other goodies. Please pass on details to your friends and family members who may also like to participate. Stalls will be under cover and cost $50 each. Stall holders will be provided with a trestle table and chair. Join with a friend and make it a ‘funner’day. PTA stalls include second hand books, plants, soup, tea and coffee, sausage sizzle. Contact Sheree Amprimo via email amprimo@alphalink.com.au to register your stall or thoughts.
Empty Garden Pots Clogging Up your Garden?
Feel free to donate them to the PTA. They will be put to good use, housing some wonderful plants for the winter market.
Second Hand Books? We would love them!! Please look through your place – if you have any books you don’t want give them to the PTA! Please leave them at the office for pickup or in the Fete shed in plastic bags.
And a huge thank you
and lots of big bouquets to those families who helped with the Flatman’s Hardware Sausage Sizzle on Sunday 20 April. Particular thanks to Simon Abbott, Paul Bentley, Rowan Charett, Anne Astorino, Robert Naylor, Sonali Jayawickrama and Jilla
Did you know
Airstream Café donate a portion of your bill to the school – if they know where you are from? When paying, simply ASK how your bill can be recorded to benefit Huntingtower.
Have you noticed the beautiful water feature that has appeared in the ELC area? Huntingtower received a grant of $1200 from the Telstra Kids Fund (part of the Telstra Foundation) to construct this. A small water tank has also been installed so that the water feature has an independent water supply. The children are also keeping their own garden watered. Our sincere thanks to the Charrett family for their help.
Farm Pride Eggs:
Our school has registered to participate in the Farm Pride and Golden Egg Farm collect-a-thon. Every token collected from Farm Pride and Golden Farm Eggs packs will earn 50c for the PTA. There is a tin in the foyer of the office, just waiting for your tokens. Please cut out the 50c tokens from your egg cartons. Proceeds will help our PTA coffers! Funds raised will go to help buy some much needed items for the ELC area. Watch out for the posters in classrooms and around the school.
Fete: Does anyone know of / work in / run / own a business that would be able to assist the school with the fete in November? We are looking for companies who could supply or quote on goods such as marquees, portable cool rooms, PA systems, advertising, marketing, food supplies. All suggestions / any help very much appreciated. Please contact one of the PTA committee members for further information. Details below.
Your Parent Teacher Association: Don’t be shy. As part of the school community, you are invited, encouraged and very welcome to attend all PTA meetings. You will learn much about the school, what is happening and how it functions.
Committee members for 2008 are happy to be contacted: Sheree Amprimo (9800 4430), Jean Barrand (9893 6660), Joy Di Fede (9574 9993), Judy Orford (9571 9740), Jenny Salgo (9802 5058), Sabrina Samaranayake ()
