Posted March 17 2008Thought for the week
“Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good and the true and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts".
Mary Baker Eddy
Huntingtower’s adage “no limits” is one that the students have heard many times. This principle comes from a firm belief that as expressions or reflections of God, infinite Mind, Life and Love, they have unlimited ability and should expect to achieve anything that they set their sights on. We have never allowed the “smallness” of Huntingtower to be a limiting factor in any of our activities. We perform way above our “weight” in almost all that we undertake. This is seen in our academic results, musical standard, debating, drama and public speaking and of course our sport.
This week we have seen the students take part in the EISM Swimming Competition in Division One. I could not have been prouder of our students. Every one of them swam their heart out and achieved a result that may have seemed beyond the realms of possibility. Huntingtower is the smallest school in the division, in some cases one quarter the size of the other schools. (The largest has 1580 students while HT has 375 in the Senior School ). Our swimmers went on to come second to The Tintern Schools by only 32 points with our girls winning the girls’ trophy by ONE point. The boys came second in the boys’ competition and we came second overall. The school that came third was more than 100 points behind. Our students have risen to the challenge of swimming against the combination of two schools and have proved themselves equal to the task. Congratulations to every swimmer, on an outstanding performance. Grateful thanks to Mrs Helen Kan and Mr Peter Rees for their work in preparing the swimmers and organising the carnival.
I have just returned from the Junior School swimming carnival and saw another group of young swimmers who are doing so well. They all tried so hard and seemed to have a lot of fun doing it. Thanks and congratulations to Mrs Clapp and Mrs Savage for their organisation and preparation of the students and also to Mrs Kan who coaches many of the students. Well done to both houses and especially to Ruthven House which won the Carnival.
At the end of the summer season of sport, we have four senior teams in Grand Finals. They are the Senior Boys Hockey Team and the Senior Girls Softball, Tennis and Soccer teams. Congratulations to you all and all the best for the finals.
Our Huntingtower Heat Basketball teams have once again performed admirably and the following teams have all made grand finals:
Friday Night
Under 14-1 Boys
Under 18 Boys
Under 23-2 Boys
Saturday Night
Under 10 Girls
Under 14-1 Boys
Under 16 Boys
Under 18/23 Girls
Tuesday Night
Under 18/23 Girls
Congratulations to all the players, coaches and managers and all the best for your finals.
On Sunday 20 April we are having the Grand Opening of our new Multipurpose Astroturf. This will be a Gala day of sport and the PTA is kindly providing refreshments all afternoon. Please put the date in your diary and come along to celebrate the opening. We are hoping to have a high profile guest to open the facility. The Old Students are putting together some very strong teams to play our students that afternoon. Please come along and join in the festivities from 1pm to about 4.30pm.
Have a wonderful Easter Holiday break.

We need class reps for 3 & 4 YO kinder, Years 3, 8, 11 & 12. Being a class rep is easy and fun – and it is a job that can be shared. Basically, you organise at least one class function, stay in touch via email with parents of your year level and help out at the odd PTA event.
Please contact a committee member if you are interested. It’s a great way to meet school parents and stay in touch with what is happening around the school

PLEASE NOTE: People not directly connected to the school community are very welcome, as both stall holders and shoppers. If you have friends or family, invite them call Sheree on 9800 4430
for more information.
Farm Pride Eggs:
Our school has registered to participate in the Farm Pride and Golden Egg Farm collect-a-thon. Every token collected from Farm Pride and Golden Farm Eggs packs will earn 50c for the PTA. There is a tin in the foyer of the office, just waiting for your tokens. Please cut out the 50c tokens from your egg cartons. Proceeds will help our PTA coffers! Funds raised will go to help buy some much needed items for the ELC area. Watch out for the posters in classrooms and around the school.
Fete: Does anyone know of / work in / run / own a business that would be able to assist the school with the fete in November? We are looking for companies who could supply or quote on goods such as marquees, portable cool rooms, PA systems, advertising, marketing, food supplies. All suggestions / any help very much appreciated. Please contact one of the PTA committee members for further information. Details below.
Your Parent Teacher Association:

TWO FANTASTIC CONCERTS!
Two very special concerts were held last week and two very enthusiastic audiences were treated to outstanding performances from all student sinvolved.
The first concert was a Senior Solo concert in which 38 students from Years 7 to 12 performed a wonderful variety of music on many different instruments and voice. Every item was an absolute gem. The second concert was the first evening of the House Music Festival at which the adjudicator Professor John Hopkins OBE was excited (as were the audience) by the wonderful array of talent displayed. 18 soloists performed challenging works brilliantly and 3 House Ensembles displayed great maturity and musicianship.
Hours and hours of work had been put in by every individual student performing in each concert we attend and so hearty congratulations and sincere thanks to you all.
INSTRUMENTAL AND THEORY LESSONS
Most lessons have commenced and great progress is being made! It will not be long before students who have just started an orchestral instrument will become part of one of the orchestras, Little Symphony or Concert Band. It is great fun and extremely rewarding so if you would like to learn an instrument and would like to have a look at and try out of some of the available instruments please contact Mrs Bramble (AH 9803 7701). It is not too late to try and all students from Years Prep to 12 are very welcome.
Unfortunately there are no saxophones left but you may like to try a shiny trombone or French Horn or bassoon or a double bass (these instruments would suit older students from Years 6 to 12). If you have already put in a Music tuition form and have not had a lesson yet the lessons should start very soon.
There has been a slight delay with the service and return of some instruments and three of the instrumental teachers have been touring overseas and interstate.
Theory lessons at all AMEB levels are available on Tuesday and Wednesdays after school. So please speak to Mrs Bramble if you are interested.
CONGRATULATIONS to Thomas Lo and Jason Huang who have been chosen to perform in the VCE Season of Excellence after their outstanding performance at the VCE Music Performance Group exam in 2007. They will perform at the Top Class Music Group Performance concert on Saturday 15 March at 6.30pm at the Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Building, Southbank. Everyone is extremely welcome to come along to support Tom and Jason.
Congratulations also to Anne-Marie Johnson who was also chosen to play but is unable to attend the concert.
Congratulations also to Thomas Lo again as he has also been chosen to perform at the Top Class Music Solo Performance as well. What a fantastic achievement Tom! He will have a very busy day as his Top Class Solo concert is also on Saturday 15 March but at 1.30pm in the Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Building, Southbank.
STRING ORCHESTRA TOUR
The Huntingtower String Orchestra will embark on a very exciting tour of Tasmania and Adelaide during the coming school holidays (Thursday 27 March – Sunday 6 April).

Prue and Jeff (who are our own Huntingtower parents of Max and Martin Crellin) will be soloists on the tour and they will be an enormous drawcard for audiences. We are extremely grateful to them for being willing to come on the tour as it is a wonderful promotion for Huntingtower.
