EISM SPRING SPORT
Year 7s continue with their Term 4 EISM Sporting competition and sessions, while the Year 8 and 9s have a couple of weeks left of the EISM Term 4 Spring Sport Competition.
The Year 7s are learning new skills and game strategies in competitions in Tennis, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball and Table Tennis. Students have made great progress in their skill development and game sense. It is great to see those students who are listening to their coach's advice and are trying hard to develop their technique and game play.
Many Year 8 & 9 students are attending the Monday Period 6 training sessions and as a result, they are improving as athletes in their sports. With a couple of rounds left in the season, there are several teams who are in Grand Finals contention including the Central and Southern Boys Tennis, Central Girls Volleyball B, Central Girls Soccer and the Girls Softball teams. Full match results and ladders can be found on the EISM website at: http://www.eism.org/html/weeklysport_frameset.htm
Recently, we had Huntingtower students compete in Athletics Victoria's All Schools Championships at Lakeside Stadium. Congratulations to sisters Ashleigh and Sarah Morley who both placed 3rd in the Javelin in their respective U17 and U 15 age groups. Well done, girls!
EISM YEAR 7 CRICKET AND SOFTBALL
Students successfully trialled for, trained for and competed in the annual EISM Year 7 Cricket and Softball days. Both teams did extremely well and the players learnt an enormous amount about their sports. Both teams only narrowly missed out on getting into their respective Grand Final play-off matches.
For the first year, the boys competition went to the Indoor Cricket format which proved a great success. Mr Anthony Wroe, our boys' coach, reported the following:
"Our Y7 students (see attached photo) did us proud today at the Indoor Cricket tournament at Box Hill. After playing 5 games, we were placed third overall, narrowly missing out on the Grand Final, losing by 2 runs on the last ball to the eventual winners, Kilvington. In the play-off game between 3rd and 4th place we were comfortable winners against Bialik, who also beat us by 2 runs earlier in the tournament.. All the boys played their part, enjoyed themselves and really impressively played the game in the correct spirit. On another day they could have easily come away as overall winners."¬Ě
A huge thank you¬Ě to Mr Nic Green, Mrs Jenni Deubel and Mr Wroe for their time and work with our students. Thank you also to Year 11 student, Elise Rodrigo for assisting Mr Green at the Softball tournament. Thank you to parents, Mr Andrew McKenzie and Mr Narendra Patel for their enthusiastic support on the day.
