VCC BASKETBALL WRAP UP

Thank you to Mr Wes Smith and Mrs Cassandra Benavides who prepared and took the Year 10 Boys and Girls teams to the Victorian College Championships (VCC) Intermediate Qualifying Tournament at the end of May. The girls team improved their performances during the day, but found themselves up against quality competition and a lot of Rep players. The boys team was impressive. They blended very well together, demonstrated a high level of skill and came away winning all their games. This team has qualified for the VCC Finals at MSAC on Thursday, 27 July. Well done to the teams.

Mr Wes Smith has been busy again with the Year 7 & 8 Boys and Girls teams. He had a full program preparing for and coaching at the VCC Junior Qualifying Tournament. The girls team finished second in their pool to reach the semi-finals. They played a very strong team from Mater Christi (full of Rep players) that went on to win the day's competition. The boys team had 1 win in five games. They were competitive, but again found themselves up against more experienced players. This whole experience gives the students an indication of what they need to do to reach the next level in their sport.

My sincere thanks to Mr Smith and Mrs Benavides for their time and expertise that they have shared with our students. I'd also like to thank the parents who assisted with scoring for the games, Mrs Michelle Griffiths, Ms Shani Finlayson, Mr John van de Waterbeemd and Mrs Cassandra Goldsmith. Your experience and help was invaluable.

Best wishes to Mr Smith and his Year 10 Boys team for the VCC Finals.
