At least one solo concert and sometimes two are held for each year level throughout the year. There are also special concerts for players in Years Prep, 1 and 2. Short solo concerts are also held for players from any year level throughout the school. These are especially useful for students who are preparing for exams, eisteddfods or auditions and would like more opportunities to perform.
During Term One our first solo concerts were our wonderful House Music Festival Solo Concerts held several weeks ago where we heard 180 amazing performances from students in Years 7 to 12 over six concerts. The next solo concert was for Year 5 and 6 String Players (concerts for piano and wind players are held later in the year.) The array of talent was wonderful and we also enjoyed two very entertaining items played by the Year 5 and 6 Orchestra.
During the last holidays solo concerts were also held for students preparing for AMEB exams.
Recently we have enjoyed the Junior Piano and Wind Solo Concert which gave us a wonderful opportunity to hear our talented performers from Years 1 to 6 and also the Little Symphony Concert (Years Prep, 1 and 2) where all our orchestral players performed a delightful solo (many for the very first time) and then joined together to entertain the large, enthusiastic audience with their enjoyable ensemble playing.

The orchestras will each perform an individual work and then combine together to perform two more works. Please come along and enjoy another magnificent PAC which has recently been opened.
YEAR OF THE DOUBLE BASS!
The Double Bass is a spectacular instrument and is the extremely important foundation of any orchestra or band (Concert, Stage and Jazz). We have a wonderful Double Bass teacher and now we need some wonderful new Double Bass students!
The Double Bass is big but where possible students are able to keep one instrument at home and use one instrument at school (for only one hire charge.) Double Bass fees for lessons will be drastically reduced for the first two terms of tuition so do come along and try out a double bass and find out more about it – it is a great instrument to play!
HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS TO:
- Diya Menon (Year 12) who recently won second prize at the PLC Charity Music Competition – a wonderful achievement!
- Isambard Knox-Johnson (Year 9) and Melody Zhang (Year 4) who both gained High Distinctions at the recent AMEB exams – more wonderful achievements!
- Jeremy Dong (Year 8) who was awarded the Certificate of Performance with Distinction at the recent AMEB exams – yet another wonderful achievement!
- Other AMEB exam candidates also received wonderful results so well done to you all!
- Members of the Small Ensemble who performed at the presentation to Mr Neville Smith of the 60 year Jewel service to Freemasonary. This was an extra special occasion because Mr Neville Smith is the very gracious, upstanding father of our own Staff Member, Mrs Janet Irving, and a member of the ensemble was past student Hamish Roe whose grandfather was a member of the Freemason's for many years and had been a close friend of Mr Smith. Hamish was certainly a very special "guest"!
- Members of the larger ensemble of current and past students who performed at the VIP afternoon tea held for supporters of our new PAC. This ensemble played in the foyer of the PAC and the sound was amazing!

ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED, HAVING A 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PARTY OR ORGANISING A BUSINESS DINNER?
Huntingtower musicians would be very willing to provide a small (or large) ensemble to play beautiful music in a wide variety of styles at any occasion. They have a very comprehensive "gig" folder that includes many special requests. A small fee would be charged as fundraising for the Huntingtower Instrumental Fund.
